Sunday afternoon ride

Covered 30 miles this afternoon. Binham to Wighton, then along the little lanes to Little Snoring Airfield. Over the A148 & on to Fulmodeston. Weather to this point was a cool 3°C and a bit cloudy with a brisk SW wind. The new Northwave winter cycle boots were keeping my feet nice and warm.
From Hindolveston we headed north to Melton Constable, stopping to take a picture of the little St. Peters Church. At Thornage  we took the back lane towards Letheringsett , over the little bridge by the disused Ford. Avoiding the nasty corner on the A148 took Walls Lane with the long climb & the quick decent down to the Ford over the River Glaven. Tea & scone stop at our favourite Art Cafe in Glandford, plus a welcome warm up. Stopped to see the 2 Donkeys on the edge of the village before heading up to Wiveton Down where we spotted the Highland Cows, lounging around in the winter sun.
Langham , then Cockthorpe , past the dome and down into Binham.
To ensure we covered 30 miles rode round the Green before heading along Warham Road to get Home.
Birds of Prey scores: Kestrels 3, Buzzards 1, Merlin's 1. No Barn Owls
Binham Priory , sunny winters day
St.Peters Church, Melon Constable
View down to Cley & the coast.

Sunday 18 January 2015

Sunday afternoon ride.

Set off from Binham and headed to Walsingham via Wighton, going past the Dairy Farm from where such fabulous cheeses like Mrs Temples Binham Blue come from.
Willingham was quite busy with people milling around the high street. Headed along the Pilgrims track to the Slipper Chapel. Did not encounter any barefooted Pilgrims along the track.
On through the Barshams and then across to Sculthorpe before crossing the A148 and on into Fakenham , before stopping off at Pensthorpe Nature Reserve Café for Tea and Scones.
From Pensthorpe we headed through the little village of Kettlestone before cutting through the aptly named Little Snoring. Stopped for a while to watch a Barn Owl hunting in a field along the edge of the Airfield. The sun had started to  go in and the temperature was dropping rapidly by this stage.
Through Thursford Green and onto Hindringham. Took the little lane to the west of the Village which takes you past Hindringham Hall and then back out onto the "main" road. Round the back of Hindringham , past the wind mill and then down the hill into Binham.
25 miles covered and a very pleasant ride.
Making sure we are keeping warm on these rides is important and my new Seal Skin Lobster gloves are excellent. Jane seems to have got her feet sorted with good socks, trainers and Endura overshoes. My feet , especially the right one is still very cold. May have to invest in some proper winter cycle shoes.

North Norfolk ride - saturday 17-01-15

Introduction

We are a couple of 50 something cyclists determined to be fit and 50 , not fat & 50. Most weekends we head out on the quiet roads of North Norfolk for a ride. May involve some food shopping in Wells-next-the-Sea & will always feature a tea stop somewhere!
We have done some cycle touring and particularly like the south of France, Provence and around that area. Are planning to return in late September for a 10 day tour. More imminent is our planned ride from Tower Bridge to the Eiffel Tower at the end of May, which we plan to do in 4 days including the Newhaven to Dieppe ferry crossing. So its important we keep cycling during the cold winter months.
